Overview & Mission

The Sarah Smith Education Foundation
Supporting Every Classroom and Every Child

There are many things that make Sarah Smith Elementary School excellent: a highly skilled and enthusiastic faculty, a strong base of parental support, and a world-class curriculum. There is one characteristic of Sarah Smith’s success that is impossible to quantify, difficult to articulate, but perhaps the most important ingredient to the school’s excellence: it is the passion that we all share for our neighborhood school. It was from this passion that the Sarah Smith Education Foundation was born.

Our Mission
The Sarah Smith Education Foundation is a not-for-profit fundraising organization supporting the school’s pursuit of excellence in education. The funds we raise enrich the learning environment available to every classroom and every child at Sarah Smith Elementary. The generosity of our supporters allows us to offer a curriculum not available at any other public elementary school in Atlanta.

For the 2009-10 school year, SSEF will fund just over $180,000 in programs including Junior Great Books, High Touch High Tech, Guided Reading, STAR Assessments, First in Math, International Baccalaureate Program, Future Problem Solvers, and Odyssey of the Mind.

A comprehensive list of all programs that will receive funding in 2009-10 can be found in the Curriculum Narrative.
