Dr. Baker Awarded 2010 Great Books Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to Dr. Baker, one of 4 educators in the nation to receive a 2010 Great Books Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago-based nonprofit Great Books Foundation.  The award acknowledges Dr. Baker’s tireless support of Great Books programs and his commitment to creating a community of teacher and student learners at Sarah Smith Elementary. Dr. Baker will join his fellow lifetime achievement award recipients, and 12 teachers receiving a 2010 Great Books Great Teachers award, in Chicago on April 30, 2010 to attend a dinner in their honor.  3rd grade SRS teacher, Sue Ellis was a recipient of the Great Books Teachers award last year.

The Sarah Smith Education Foundation (SSEF) funds the Junior Great Books (JGB) program at Sarah Smith.  JGB is a reading program aimed at improving reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. SSEF Funds pay for teacher training and consumable books for each child. The JGB program was expanded to all grades, K-5, this school year.
