The International Travelers Program was born with a vision of international exposure to cultures and countries around the world. It is a week long classroom immersion in another country. Everything the students study and experience that week is focused on the country chosen for that year. The curriculum covered includes all aspects of the culture from food, geography, language, pop culture, science and so much more. The week always concludes with a Peace Pole dedication for that particular country. The International Travelers Program is a collaboration of the parents, teachers and administration and it is a wonderful experience.
Our first stop was Japan in 2010. The students “visited” Japan and the experiences they encountered created such excitement. The culture of Japan was unique to so many of our children and they really valued learning about it. Our next stop was Italy. Italy was almost as magical at Sarah Smith as the real thing. The students enjoyed learning so much about the cities and the many famous people of Italy, not to mention the Gelato.
Our 2012 trip is going to be to the spectacular country of India. This is yet another culture that many of our students will be experiencing for the first time. We have many families of Indian origin who are going to be crafting this special week and promising another week of fun and learning about another amazing country of the world.
