The Green Team is involved in helping to promote recycling on the Sarah Smith Campuses. We explore the grounds and building to ensure recycling is in its proper place. We promote recycling.
The Nature Club is a club that works with the Green Team. This club explores the grounds of the Intermediate campus to promote conservation and awareness of the environment.
“Green Week,” March 14-18, encouraged to students think about how everyday choices affect the environment. It was a hit at the Intermediate Campus, where students collected 436 signatures from classmates and teachers pledging to “reduce, reuse and recycle” whenever possible. (Not bad for a campus of about 550 people!)
Daily trivia contest winners got to hang out with Greenlie McGreenerson for a day, and students learned things like:
• If 100,000 Americans stopped their junk mail each year we could save 250,000 trees.
• Microwave ovens use less energy than a regular oven.
• Americans use most of the water in the bathroom. Turn the water off when you brush your teeth.
“How are you GREEN” IC Poster Contest Winners:
Congratulations to R. Sashti (3rd grade), N. Kitts (4th grade), and S. Golden (4th grade) who each received a unique trophy and a waste-free lunch kit for their recycled art entries.
Taste Test Results:
In a blind test at the IC, 56% of tasters preferred tap water, 38% preferred bottled water, and 6% had no preference.
Green Inspectors’ Awards:
The “greenest” classes awards went to these super-recyclers: 3rd grade— Ms. Young’s class, 4th grade—Mr. Blackwell’s class, and 5th grade—Ms. Abromitis’ class. Imagine what would happen if we all were super recyclers every day!
